The Tea Rooms were originally supposed to be about other subjects away from Wildlife and Consevation and about other subjects. And my second interest in life is Astronomy as well as the exploration of space. I’ve been lucky enough to see Total Solar Eclipses in person, including the 1999 Total Solar Eclipse not in Cornwall where it was mainly overcast with rain but I was in Austria in the line of Totality which was as usual so memorable! Most Total Solar Eclipses at Maximum(maximum period of Totaity in a Solar Eclipse) last under 3 minutes. Rarely you can get a much longer period of totality. The Total Solar Eclipse in the 22nd century in the year 2186 will be the longest Total Solar Eclipse for 10 thousand years where totality at Maximum will last 7 minutes 29 seconds long! The longest period of totality possible is 7 minutes 32 seconds long. The first link above gives the details of all the 5 Solar and Lunar Eclises in 2024. The second what someone’s experience of a Total Solar Eclipse looks like. The third and last link is a short 12 minute talk on why everyone should witness at least one total solar eclipse in their life. In 2026 and 2027 there will be two Total Solar Eclipses in part of Europe(sadly only partial in the UK. After 2027 it will be many decades until another Total Solar Eclipse takes place in in Europe. After 2027 you will have to travel to other continents to see a Total Solar Eclipse in person for many years!  Tiger who has been a member on this forum for many years has also seen Total Solar Eclipses in person like me. In the second link of a short 6-7 minute film of someone’s experience  of aTotal Solar Eclipse! Look at the horizon where there is a 360 sunset, which is not a sunset  all around the horizon. There is a reason why that happens!

Ian.
