Complimentary reserve pass enquiry

I have three unused RSPB complimentary reserve passes from previous years.  I decided to leave the RSPB about 5 years ago and not renew my membership due to the perceived high cost of single membership.  I only visit my local reserve by car occasionally and although there is no fee for visiting they do charge £3 for car parking for non-members.  Can I use my complimentary pass for car parking ?

There don't seem to be and hard and fast rules and I've never seen anyone checking cars to see if they have paid.

That used to be the case unlinke The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and I’ve posted about this subject many before including on this forum and the National Trust have always being very strict about membership cards as well. But there has been a change in policy at RSPB Saltholme in recent years. Now if members  forget to bring there membership cards, they will have to pay the admission price to Saltholme, but members can ask for a recite and when they return  to visit Saltholme and return with that recite and there membership card and the admission price for that previous will be refunded as long as there membership cards hadn’t  expired from the date of there previous visit to Saltholme. I’m not sure about other RSPB reserves doing the same. But that has been my main criticism about the RSPB in previous decades, about doing exactly that at RSPB reserves, with an admission charge and being very lax at checking every RSPB members, membership cards at RSPB reserves, that have an admission charge, in previous decades compared to other larger and smaller conservation organisations that do check every members, membership cards in the UK.

  • When I joined the RSPB around 1971/1972 as a life member. There was only an option of joint membership for either husband and wife or partners and no single life membership for one person as there is now. So I was offered one of my two life membership cards to admit one guest of which I accepted. And below is proof in what I’m saying is true.

“ And I’m able to admit one guest for life. I remember when I me  believed me. There are three other life members who I know from my RSPB Local Group who also have been been single and at least two of those members have been life members longer than myself  and they also have a membership card that can admit one guest for life and I remember when I first mentioned this, no one actually believed me. Well above shows I was telling the truth

  • This is what you get as an as a little extra if you become a Life Member. It’s probably best for anyone interested in becoming a Life Member if they did that at a young age or maybe as a gift/present for someone who is  at a young age!

You can’t become a Life Member online. You have to phone the RSPB on the telephone number above! to become a Life Member!
