I come back from holiday and the the little red counter tells me I have 99 Notifications whereas in truth I have 511. So I take the quick way out and click on "Mark all as read" and as we all know can only delete them 9 at a time :(.

I think that happens when an entry that generated a notification is deleted before you view/acknowledge it - not that it'll help the situation of course! :-)
