As a birder and photographer of many many years, I finally decided to tackle learning the scientific names of at least the UK bird species. This helps posting images on international websites. I was also curious to learn the origin of these names and found an excellent pdf on the web that I'd like to share:

The glossary starts a few pages in. I now know that, for example, the Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus) means Peaked-Headed Reed-Climber. This also helps learn the scientific names by being able to break them down into more memorable elements.
Crikey! I struggle telling what they are in English ... . But good on you trying to learn something new ...
