This bird is lying on the path opposite our house in the outskirts of Durham. It looks a bit battered and I thought maybe a Sparrowhawk, but I'm a bit thrown by the very white feathers on its head.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
