  • It seems obvious that the BBC is having to toe the government line and avoid offending those interests who are, in all likelihood, most opposed to our own. We must all have woken up in Russia without our noticing.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • The Wild Isles series was always a 5 part one - there isn't a 6th episode - all the original press releases stated as such. The additional programme was commissioned separately by NT/WWF/RSPB as a companion. You could argue about it being a shame that the BBC didn't want to add it themselves, but that's a 5 year old discussion (I believe the series was commissioned in 2018).
The journalist concerned does have a bit of a track history in creating misleading articles....

  • Firstly: The Save our wild isle video is available on the RSPB website here Save our wild isle video You'll have to scroll down a bit

    or here

Ho hum, usual biased, uninformed reporting by 'reporters', whether left wing having a go at right wing (in this instance) or right wing having a go at left wing. Rather than unifying everyone under a common, desperately needed cause, this idiot has caused unnecessary anger and division.

The following links will take you directly to the relevant pages for more informed information on Save Our Isles series and campaign visit our own RSPB or National Trust or WWF or Open University  You can get a natty poster from the OU.

You can also visit the Save our wild isle campaign

As quoted in Chronicle - plus other places I believe

A joint statement from WWF, the RSPB and the National Trust, said: "Saving Our Wild Isles, which the Guardian article is referring to, is a complementary documentary to the Wild Isles TV series. Saving Our Wild Isles is produced by Silverback, commissioned by WWF, National Trust and RSPB, and will be available on iPlayer. A date will be announced in due course.

"This is a separate film to the series, created by Silverback, WWF, National Trust and RSPB. BBC acquired the film for iPlayer."

An Open University spokesperson said: "We are proud to lend our academic expertise and co-produce Wild Isles with the BBC which consists of five episodes. Saving Our Wild Isles is a separate film inspired by the series that was commissioned by the RSPB and WWF and does not have input from the Open University."

Personally, I ignore crappy, ill informed, sensationalist reporting. In terms of Saving our isle I, like many, am taking direct, small pieces of actions to help improve and save our environment.

This is all quoted in the original link Ian posted but most people are probably not reading past the headline.

  • You nailed it right on the head, Bob. Couldn't agree more.

Provocative headline, and buried in the detail are quotes that repudiate the headline.

Guess what? I didn't read the article.

However, I didn't take it at face value, which many people would, instead I went straight to the sources mentioned and others to try and get a balanced opinion.

Anyway, the video is only 1 minute 12 seconds long; which is why, assuming it is the 'not-to-be-aired-episode', it is only available on iPlayer.

Incidentally, it isn't yet on iPlayer. I've just checked. Plus, having watched episode one, I notice that the information on how diverse and crucial nature is in the UK and the Clairon call to save it, is also, to some extent, repeated in this short video
