I know that some occasional followed the trials and tribulations of Plant Pots Owl aka Lady and Pappa - Spotted Eagle Owls in South Africa. I dropped into their facebook page to discover that Lady died in January along with her two adopted owlets, from Trich, probably contracted from a Laughing Dove they had eaten. Trich is apparently ravaging the owl population in Jo'burg and I have to admit it never occurred to me that it could/would present a potential problem to predators.

Thanks for posting this update C as it never occurred to me to do so even though I was following this sad turn of events! Must check up on latest about Pappa who is still flying free but has some kind of problem with an eye!
Last report was that he is doing ok, the current thought are he may have just caught his eye.

I monitored the nest 24/7 thru the season, the tragedy was almost impossible to come to terms with, it was literally unbelievable that the thriving owlets and their wonderful mother could have come to grief
