Paul A's picture of his packed lunch has inspired me to start this thread. What do you have in your packed lunch? If you prefer to dine in style, which pubs, RSPB cafes or takeaways do you recommend? Pictures would be good too.
I'll start with our normal:
Our best ever lunch (late) was in Sardinia. We'd just finished a 12 mile walk in 35 degree heat and had core temperatures rather hotter than the sun. We staggered onto the terrace of a sea-front cafe and ordered huge bowls of Italian ice-cream with half litre of Peroni chasers - wonderful :-)

A nice change from sandwiches when you’re out and about. :-)
Mixed salad leaves - Grated Carrot – Tomatoes - Spring Onion - Grated cheese - Chicken (breast or thickly sliced) – Mayonnaise - Sweet chilli sauce - Ground sea salt - Ground black pepper - Garlic powder.
Chop everything up then add salt, pepper & garlic powder. A big dollop of mayonnaise and a very healthy squirt of sweet chilli sauce. Mix up in a bowl. Add a few spoonful’s onto a Tortilla Wrap. Fold up, left, right & down. (Or put in a small container and eat with spoon and oatcakes.)

Wraps can make good packed lunches, so long as the filling doesn't spill out! :-/
My fav is soggy cheese and tomato sarnies, I just love the way the tomatoes make the bread so most....
Back in my hill walking days, my packed lunch would depend on time of year and where I was walking, or even wild camping which would dictate what I carried, and for wild camping, it was often ration packs.
However, today, it's not easy carrying a packed lunch, camera gear and binocs while manipulating my way around with crutches, so I'm dependant on cafes....
A tip for those who take drinks in flasks, to avoid the odour that often occurs in flasks from soups, coffee, tea or other drinks, especially juices kept in a flask to keep them at a suitable temperature...
Use hot water in the flask and drinks sachets to make the drink up, that will avoid the odours that often occur.
With cold drinks, just use cold water and a bottle of undiluted juice, add the cold water and enjoy.
However, on hot days, tepid water may seem unpalatable, but it can actually be more thirst quenching in the longer term.
Why?
Because cold drinks chill the inner body, and the body's temperature control mechanisms think "Oh, I'm getting cold", so it sets about warming you up, whereas a tepid drink, or hot cuppa, keeps the temperature equilibrium.
Fruit juices, squash and other so called chilled drinks, especially carbonated ones, ie fizzy pops, where the carbonated water actually doesn't hydrate you, it just gives a quick refreshing fix, rather than longer term hydration.
