I pop out mixed seed on a tray and I don't mind the Jackdaws coming to eat but they're such messy eaters. They fling and flick the seed all over the joint. Presumably getting to the type of seed that they prefer. The wood pigeons do come to vacuum up the remains but there's loads of seed that falls on the ground and then it starts to germinate and grow. So if they can't eat politely then no more seed! They chomp on the fat balls though, which is fine.
Cheers, Jason
I find starlings and sparrows do the same thing, Jason. I've stopped ground feeding now it's warmer for that reason but during the cold spring, I found if I stopped putting the seed out on the morning, all the discarded seed was hoovered up. Then I put the afternoon lot out.
I think I may stop popping out seed out for a while. There's plenty more food about. In the cold weather I'll pop out food all the time. Just that the tray is off the ground and it just gets flung everywhere.
lol Jason, the Jays do that too, go to the seed dish, flick, flick, flick, dumping out what they don't want and being very selective !!! doesn't matter much here because we have 50 vacuum cleaners waiting to clean up the mess LOL

Hehe good stuff Hazy! Oh gotta go to work now :(
No its not because they are picking out their favourites as they do it to the mealworms I put out, the suet pellets and the seed. I have no idea but found this thread googling why are jackdaws such messy eaters?
