Look what I saw at my local reserve!

I'm sure it's a Tree Creeper. First time I've ever seen one! :-))

I had only just got out of the car and I saw these birds clambering up the side of a tree. Sadly I didn't have my tripod and the other pics were a bit blurred, but this one was the best focused:

  • Hi Woodpecker

It certainly is a tree creeper. Nice little birds aren't they. You did well to get a photo.

  • Treecreepers are SO hard to photograph so well done at getting a photo of one!  We get them around here but I have yet to manage to get anywhere close to a decent photo of them, not to mention the neck-ache involved as well!

  • Oh well done Woodpecker, what a lovely bird, and a good shot. You must have been thrilled to bits. I've never seen one anywhere.

    Cheers, Linda.

    Hi KatTai

Thanks and you're not kidding! I actually saw it sideways on the edge of the tree and thought that would be the best shot. Wrong! It skittered about so much that most were fairly out of focus even for my reasonably decent camera.

I saw the TC just as I got out of the car then the next 15 minutes was taken up by the fighting geese! While I was taking shots of the TC, I could hear the unmistakable loud hammering sound of a Woodpecker on wood close by, but I didn't spot it. What a morning! This reserve is within 5 minutes drive of my house, in fact OH used to walk the dog down there. I think I might have to go again.....

    Hi Sparrow

Yes I was! I thought to myself 'This is going to be good, I haven't even got out of the car park yet!'

  • They're great birds to watch, I agree that they can be difficult to photograph as they are always on the move, usually in bad light, and more often than not on the other side of the tree!  Having said that they don't appear to bothered by humans and will regularly carry on about their business oblivious to us.

I agree, I've had one land on a tree right next to me that didn't seem to care that I was there at all!

  • Great photo Chris. Well spotted!

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • Great photo. Its always the same when you see something rare, a bit of panic sets in. Well it does with me.
Got to get it, on the wrong setting, hurry up That's me.

  • Hi all,

Thanks for your kind comments. I really appreciate them :-)

BW, Yes definitely. My camera had trouble focusing in the setting I had it on so I had to change it.

Apart from the Tree Creeper I saw a Siskin, several Long Tailed Tits, Blue tits and Great tits, and Robins.
