Hello Folks! Flowers not only decorate our meadows, our woodlands, our roadsides with splashes of colour, but they also provide food and shelter for a whole host of insects. We have only to look at UK flowers to appreciate their beauty, their scent, their diversity. Each Monday for 12 weeks I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify the UK flower. On Wednesday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. On Friday I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest.Keep a note of each species, as I will be asking which is the odd one out at the end of the quiz.MYSTERY FLOWER QUIZ#11As a plant, I'm a real slippery customer.
Now do I go for my old standby or try something else...Ladies Slipper Orchid since Eel grass is underwater and doesn't really count
Caroline in Jersey

First thought is Eelgrass but it's a marine plant and I'm not sure whether it flowers. Might have to think again.

Now that is a good thought TJ, brings back some memories, I once tried making soap with it. Not the best experiment. How does it tie in with the theme tho?
Edit, Apologies that should read MarJus regarding the Soapwort, I am loosing my marbles!
Interesting thought Marjus but don't forget it's going to have an animal name somewhere in the answer.
What else is slippery? Reptiles? Not really but there is Snake's Head Fritillary and Lizard Orchid that I can think of.
What about Solomon's Seal.

Well my excuse is, perhaps this one's the odd one out! Lol!
I'll go for snakes head
or vipers bugloss as snakes came into my head

a good laugh is better than a tonic
Not aware that it has to have an animal name in the answer.
Can you confirm MrsT
I don't think it HAS to have an animal name in the answer, Ray. But, if you look back all the others have contained the name of a creature of some sort whether real or mythical.
I'm waiting for tomorrow's clue cos I've run out of ideas.
Could it be something simple like Cowslip ?
