Hello Folks!Be they big or small, insects are undoubtedly highly fascinating creatures. Chances are wherever you are, whatever you're doing, an insect is not a million miles away and you might not even know it! So what better reason than to have a quiz to see how much you know about them.
Each Monday for 12 weeks, I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify the insect. On Wednesday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. On Friday I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest.MYSTERY INSECT QUIZ#72 organs shaped like beans.

Is there such a thing as double kidney in the insect world
Ray
a good laugh is better than a tonic
Well a Kidney spot ladybird has one spot on each elytron so that makes it double.... so I'm sticking! Lol!

yours is the only one with kidney in the name Marjus
edit been messing about and wasps have kidney shaped eyes, more of an organ than wings
So could we be looking for a wasp. [just an idea]
Never heard of a double kidney anything but Marjus' thinking sounds good:-)
Solved the second clue (I think) but still hadn't got a full answer so I've got to admit I ran out of patience and did a search on google. Would never have got it in a month of sundays otherwise. Mind you - last time I cheated I was still wrong!
Ha ha Stoat :-) I shouldn't laugh, I went to a charity auction recently and bid against myself and pushed the price up!
ALso see blue donkey in the clue lol
I don't think donkeys are insects, although my horse is convinced they are horse eating aliens!

Lol, Stoat, I've done that aswell. I got double kidney, but love the blue donkey, Ray, (is that an alternative to a pink elephant?) I think it's time for a bit of googling, (aka cheating).

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

Congratulations to all of you who guessed the Double kidney (Ipimorpha retusa) moth. First a bit about the clues: 2 organs shaped like beans. Kidneys are often described as being shaped like beans and two would imply double. The second clue: ‘Kind you bleed’ was an anagram of Double kidney.
With a wing span of 28mm, the Double kidney moth is classed as a macro moth, of which there are around 800 species in the UK. Macro moths are a little more developed and often bigger (though not always) than micro moths. Double kidney moths are currently only found in southern Britain and can be seen around July to September, often frequenting damp woods and marshes. Their larvae are partial to willow, sallow and black poplar. With hooked wingtips, the Double kidney moth as their name suggests have 2 oval kidney shapes on their wings. A picture of a Double kidney moth can be found here.
Keep an eye out for next week’s mystery insect quiz!
