Hello Folks,RSPB reserves are great places for you to get closer to nature. So what better reason than to have a quiz to see how much you know about them. Each Monday for 12 weeks, I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify this RSPB reserve. On Wednesday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. On Friday I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest. Just for fun!: Make sure you keep an note of the first letter of each reserve as the weeks go by, and at the end of week 12, see if you can rearrange all 12 letters to spell out a message about our reserves. Here goes ....MYSTERY RSPB RESERVE#7A great white was seen at long island.
I recall a Grey Tailed Tattler at Ynys Hir reserve in 1981,the only one I have ever seen and it cost me a lot of brownie points to get time away to make the journey.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I think Ynys Hir is Welsh for Long Island.
This week’s mystery reserve is..... Ynys-hir in Ceredigion. Welsh for ‘long island’, Ynys-hir is a mixture of wet grassland, saltmarshes and oak woodland. Ynys-hir was opened to the public (on an advance permit basis only) in 1969 and is home to Lapwing, Little egret, Redshank and Wood warbler. In 1981, Ynys-hir was host to a Grey-tailed tattler, a rare migrant from Siberia. This year, also saw a Great white egret visit the reserve. Did you know that 11 species of bat have been recorded at Ynys-hir. There are 18 species of bat in the UK.
More information on Ynys-hir can be found here:

Keep an eye out for next week’s mystery reserve quiz.

P.S - Don’t forget to jot down the first letter of each reserve.
