MYSTERY BIRD QUIZ #2

Hello Folks,

Here's something for all you fans of our feathered friends. Each friday for 12 weeks, I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify this bird. The following Monday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. The day after I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest.

    Thinking of the booming in the clue,there is Little Bittern on the N.Z. list but does it boom ?

    Hi Mrs T

    Im going for a Kakapo too, I seem to remember something about the male having some sort of internal bag/sack which they inflate and make a booming sound which can be heard for a few miles. For the life of me I cannot remember if I saw this on TV or in one of the zoos we have visited over the past few years?

    Blimey, if these quiz's are going to be about foreign birds then thats me knackered as I aint got much idea about foreign birds..........apart from Mrs Robbo who's part Italian LOL

     

    I found this and it cracked me up...not for the easily offended though LOL

    Thanks Robbo, cracked me up too, (with the help of a glass of wine I happened to be drinking at the time).  What a bird!

    I think that TJ etc are right on this one.  Like Shane I am sure I have seen something about about Kakapo booming and lekking - it wasn't last chance to see because I didn't watch it but I do remember reading the book.

    Heavy Bird, Limited flight, WHite Clouds, booming and lekking can only be a kakapo

    That's already been given. I assumed from MrsT's comment that it's something else otherwise wouldn't she have said?

    I haven't cheated and looked this up but I have a feeling there's a large flightless ostrich like bird called a Rhea or Rhia. Not sure how it's spelt.
