Hi all, on my travels recently i've taken a healthy number of dodgy pictures of birds and bugs. Rather than just press delete I figured why not give you a chance to test your ID skills. So here are just a few to have a go at, i'll post the answers a bit later this week.
Warden Intern at Otmoor.
1 - Turtle dove. Havent seen one of these for a while, the feather pattern is wonderful.
2 - Peregrine falcon? Looks a bit fluffy + full though.
3 - Green shank. Not very good at waders, although I spend hrs on the coast ;-)
4 - No good at butterflies - so its a X from me here.
Not a very good start Iain. Quizzes are going slowly here just now.

I agree with Kat on the birds but I'm not sure about the butterfly. I quite like it as a Gatekeeper
Best wishes Chris

Thanks for having a crack at this, hope it's given you some food for thought!!! In Seymour's absence I figured you could all do with a challenge to keep you on your toes, although I must say this isn't as hard as some of the quizzes Mr S aves has provided!
And just a hint, nobody has got all four right so far!!!
Unknown said: So, taking over from Seymour are you Ian. Turtle Dove Kestrel (poss adult female?) Green Sandpiper Not good with butterflies - I'll guess at Large Heath
Agreed, but Small Heath for no 4! :-)

I agree with TJ, no idea on the butterfly though.

We have a winner, well done Marjus!
To clarify the answers are;
1 Turtle dove (taken at Fowlmere)
2 Kestrel (Pentire headland, Cornwall inc one of a number of swallows mobbing the raptor)
3 Green sandpiper (Fowlmere)
4 Small heath (The Lodge)
Well done, Marjus. I knew I wouldn't get the flutterby right.
