Hey folks,Mammals are truly fascinating creatures, they come in all shapes and sizes and can be found in a whole host of places, each with diverse lifestyles. Over the last 10 weeks, I've been posting a Mystery mammal quiz each week to test your knowledge and to have a bit of fun. Well, I can't believe 10 weeks have flown by already. You've all been absolutely marvelous mammal detectives and to round things off I thought I'd throw in a poll to see what your favourite mystery mammal is. So what's it to be, the furtive Stoat?, the cunning Fox?, the prickly Hedgehog? As well as voting for your favourite critter, when not share any photos or experiences you may have!Enjoy and get voting!ClaireP.S - Results will be posted early next week.
MrsT Reptile & Amphibians next? please
It's both what you do and the way that you do it!
You cannot fly like an eagle with the wings of a wren. William Henry Hudson (1841 - 1922)
I was thinking of covering invertebrates instead - what do you think?
Inverts!!! we'd never run out, their still being discovered at a rate of knots!! Yay
I really enjoy these and reckon inverts need more exposure, they are so misunderstood
My thoughts above were as it's a narrower field , so more chance of people taking a guess.
You are the quiz master and which ever you do I'll be taking part.

Invertes...it is, watch this space!
Here is that picture I promised Mrs T of a stoat...........
I have seen one that was alive just the once but it will stay with me forever :-)
Also found a photo of my many trips to Gweek in Cornwall and the grey seals at the santuary............
ChrisS.
A very old Shropshire Lad.
Wonderful stuff ChrisS, thanks for those. The seal photo demonstrates the comparative shape head and nostril configuration to the Common seal. The stoat whilst an ex-stoat gives folk a good idea of the size, colour and overall shape of this beasty.
Claire
D'oh you are right Claire about the common seal sorry :-)
You were right, ChrisS, this is a Grey seal, what I meant was your photo shows the differences between the common and grey seal. The long muzzle is characteristic of grey seals.
It's not dead, it's just resting with its eyes closed and with no pulse.
