As you can see from last years results, the top ten Big Garden Birdwatch birds are all well known and regular visitors to many gardens around the UK and provide all of us with hours of entertainment as they go about their daily lives alongside our own.
However, what we want to find out with this poll is which species is likely to make you jump out of your chair, spill your tea and drop your digestive biscuits with excitement! We have narrowed the list down to ten birds, which proved very difficult, that are seen regularly but are just a little bit out of the ordinary for various reasons. All you need to do is to pick the one that would give you the most pleasant of surprises if it arrives during the birdwatch hour.
If you can think of a species that we have missed from the list (those lucky enough to have red kites living locally should have something to say!) please tell us about it and why it should be included.
Happy voting!

I am going for Bullfinch.
I havent seen one on my local patch for years and numbers have declined in Essex.
Waxwings are more common here at present! :)

Waxwing.
I must be the only person who hasn't seen one yet.

I went for nuthatch. I don't hold much hope out for waxwings in my garden as there aren't many berries. I had a nuthatch turn up earlier this winter for a few days but not seen it since so it would be nice to see it again.
As long as the coal tits turn up though I will be quite happy.
Best wishes

I'm not bald. I've just got ingrowing hair!

Whether its exciting or not, its not on the list but I would like to see a greenfinch given that the last one I saw in my garden was very poorly indeed and got chased away by my dog before I had a chance to stop it. Other than that I haven't seen one for so long and it makes me very sad. What can be done??
haha Sounds like a good swap Brenda!
Litterally had reports of 100's of Waxwing in Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock.
I've voted for bullfinch as I haven't seen one in the garden for years but there is just an outside chance. Waxwings are not a realistic bird to see because I've got no red berries left. Bramblings are another on my wish list but very unlikely particularly now the weather is less cold.
