  • Hi Nick, welcome to the forum.  Looks like you are off to a good start with your local park, sounds like a good place.

  • Hi there Kezmo - 'my' local park is small but has open space as well as some woodland! I am optimistic about its birding potential, and hope to get plenty more sightings in before the trees come into full leaf.

Please feel free to take a look at my blog - http://nick-young.blogspot.com/

  • Welcome Nick,

How I wish I could identify bird song. I'm afraid much of it is out of the question for me because I am quite literally tone deaf. I can identify the odd and more unusual bird sounds, like the obvious ones, the cuckoos, pigeons and jackdaws, also the summer song of the blackbird. However, everything else is beyond me. I can tell differences in notes, they don't sound flat, but I can't distinguish whether the notes are going up or down!! I am the same with music. However, it doesn't stop me enjoying all the twittering and chattering coming from the trees. I wish you success with your resolution.

    Cheers, Linda.

  • Hi Neil.

Welcome to the forum and well done on the fieldfare.  :-)

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Hi Neil and welcome to the forum. How wonderful to see the fieldfare. I recently saw my first two redwings and I was over the moon so I can totally understand your excitement.

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • A big THANKYOU to all replys, i noticed this morning with the newly laid snow that the Feildfare has a partner ! i put a few plums out for them and they loved them. As a must this week i will sort out our camara so i can take some pictures as the 'mobile phone' isnt good enough for those  long tricky shots, lol . So please bare with me. I will however upload our visit to the Zoo photos from last year, bye for now ,

    Neil

  • Hi Neil,

Were they fresh plums, and did you chop them up? I have never thought of plums.

    Cheers, Linda.

  • The plums were from our local garden center as they were thowing out old friuts n veg , we collect weekly and feed our various animals and birds with these. I didn't cut the plums up just left them to 'sort out themselves' which when watching them they enjoyed ;).

  • Hi Neil, that's interesting as I threw away two really squishy bananas yesterday and now I am wondering whether I should have put them out. I must admit I tend to work on the basis that if I don't want to eat it then the birds probably won't but perhaps that's a bad assumption to make........

For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
