Hi all,
Just been thinking about this anyone else up for a 'Local Patch' forum where we could describe our usual birding location, say what we have see and generally comment on local changes affecting our personal birding habits.

I have to grow old but I refuse to grow up !!!
I've no objection to any new forum if there's sufficient interest , but what we need first is a better homepage layout.
Instead of the homepage consisting of all the latest posts in every forum it should show a list of all forums and indicate which forums have new posts since your last visit. That's how every other site I visit works.
The current layout means that existing threads can be pushed into obscurity in a matter of hours whenever there's a flurry of new posts. Members that aren't able to login every day can miss topics they would otherwise contribute to.

Checkout the forums' Community HOMEPAGE for lots of interesting posts from other members.
Hi Galatas
The homepage is a bit odd, most forums have a list of the subject forums available and you dont see post till you visit a forum. I agree with you the homepage needs changing.
They are already there if people use them, each reserve as its own forum that can easily be used for that area.
I think Urban Wildlife means local patches as in local parks , canal walks etc rather than RSPB reserves.
My own nearest RSPB site is an hour away so I do most of my birding elsewhere.
Sounds good to me, perhaps we could do each Shire throughout the country to cover our own local areas including those canal walks, reserves, lakes, rivers, parks and anything else that turns up some good birding opportunities ?

Think if there is one it needs keeping separate from the home page as that is already overfull and could do with splitting off the Osprey to a separate part anyway.
That's not a bad idea - the osprey threads do go into overdrive from March!!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Hi- a general Birding forum has been suggested previously. If that was set up then local patch watching could easily fit there.

For advice about Birding, Identification, field guides, binoculars, scopes, tripods, etc - put 'Birding Tips' into the search box
Within the current structure, I think the logical choice for this would be the "Where to Watch Wildlife" forum
This seems to be pretty much what Urban Wildlife is describing.
If a separate new forum was created, how would it be differentiated from this?
I'm inclined to agree with Sue on this, there are quite few threads in this forum already where people talk about their local bird/nature watching exploits but I will forward your comments to the team who develop the site. Thanks for your feedback.
