Big Garden Birdwatch

The day before the official birdwatch, I was watching the sparrows on my bird feeder. They were joined by a goldfinch. It held its own - fending off the sparrows that tried to dislodge it. Then a sparrowhawk alighted in our silver birch tree and all the little birds fled. Needless to say, when I did my bird watch the next day, I saw neither goldfinch nor sparrowhawk.
  • They do that. Half my regulars deserted the garden for the weekend, the Wrens, Great Tits, one of the Blue Tits, the Dunnocks and one of the Blackcaps went AWOL. There is however a good chance that they appeared in someone else's garden who was taking part :-)
