The Woodpigeons always get there first

I've noticed that the first birds to get to my Elderberries when they ripen are the Woodpigeons, although the Starlings finish them off.

Mmmm Elderberries

May as well get stuck in.

Me too, but I'm camera shy.

And just to finish with

A Peacock on the Buddlia with its wings looking rather the worse for wear.

  • What a lovely area you have with Elderberry and Buddlia to attract the birds and the insects.     Nice to see the colourful Peacock butterfly and as for those woodpigeons get everywhere  lol     "Ours" tend to perch on the feeders !   you wouldn't think they could balance or get their feet on the metal perches but they manage somehow !

  • I like the shy woodie, also the ripe elderberries, around here they are still green.   I made a linctus one year out of the berries which seemed to work well for sore throats and colds etc, shall have to keep an eye out to get to them before the starlings arrive.

  • @ Hazel - Thanks though I think the bush is getting a bit too big for its boots so I may have to replace with something else.

@ Gaynor - I once made wine out of Elderberries - a cure all for me!
