Blanket weed on small wildlife pond

Good morning We have got blanket weed on our small pond but we also have a lot of wildlife. What I would like to know, is it better to remove the blanket weed going through it very carefully in case there is any pond life in it or is it better to leave it until the tadpoles have grown as we wonder if they use it for cover? We have also bought some blanket weed solution called 'Stop Blanket Weed' made by Evolution Aqua which is supposed to be safe to use with tadpoles, but we are afraid it might harm them. Any advice would be appreciated. PS We have also got dragon fly larvae and water boatmen.
  • Hi MP. I have just cleared out my clay-lined pond in favour of a liner. within a week of filling the new pond from our well, the water began to turn green, I have introduced three bails of Barley stray for the 120.000 gallon pond. Barley straw worked very well in the old pond but that had plenty of plant cover, the new pond has none yet but I will be planting this weekend in large Rubble buckets as will as floating plants. Barley straw wont get rid of existing algae but after the straw has been in for about three weeks it starts to leech out natural chemicals which prohibit new algae. Will from East Kent
