Hear on the wirral the small birds are starting to come in more to my bird station, like wren, robin, dunnocks, but I have not seen any Great tits, in fact I have only seen a few Blue tits. Having said this I have seen more of the Long tailed tits,Has anybody else seen less of the tit family or is it only me?
My garden in Wiltshire is fairly quiet at present but the area is quite rural so I guess there is plently of natural food about still. I have seen a blue tit on the peanuts but only the one so far. Earlier this week I was at a reserve in Hampshire and there were dozens of birds on the feeders - mostly great tits and blue tits but also chaffinches and nuthatches.
There is something new to learn everyday...

I think you may be right it is a bit early, lets hope more start coming into the garden soon.
Only coming to feed first thing in the morning and then not for long and not using the feeders both Blue Tits and Great Tits are taking seed from the high rise trays asif they are in too much of a hurry to fiddle with the feeders!
Wait till its much colder then we will see them,as sarum bat says there is plenty of natural food out there, must be due to the mild weather.
Hi SB
It is like that here too.
We went though a phase of having a few birds, and now they have dissappeared once more. We have not even seen a Great Tit make an appearance yet in our new garden area {sad} - moved here in July 2009
Please send a Great Tit over this direction.
There was lots of garden birds feeding on the garden feeders at RSPB Headquarters at Sandy last weekend so we live in hope.

My goodness, I do feel honoured to have been chosen as having given the best answer. Feels like winning a school prize. Not that I ever won one mind! So, thank you for that Waxwing.
They are bound to turn up for an easy meal when the weather turns colder so until then I guess we just have to be patient. If I get too many in my garden I'll send some on you Waxwing and Blackbird. lol!
I was in a garden centre wildbird department with my sister recently and encouraged her to buy a peanut feeder. I warned her it wouldn't get visitors for a couple of weeks or so but to my surprise it was visited after only four days. Little sis was highly excited and announced that it must have been some kind of tit but she was at the other end of the kitchen and didn't have her glasses on so it wsn't a very reliable report! Hopefully the tit will come back when I am at the house and can ID it for her. With luck I will make a convert of her yet!

I’m in South Devon and have lots of Great Tits, Blue Tits and Coal Tits. I’m not sure how many there are but they manage six fat balls and half a pound of peanuts per day (expensive little things). The Long Tailed Tits have made a few brief appearances but they are not daily visitors yet.
Build it and they will come.
Thanks to everyone for your answers,at the moment hear its very windy I have only seen woodpigeons and doves
who look great as they have now gone through the moult ,plenty of mistle thrushs going over through.
On my morning walkabouts (mainly to seek out the hares) I've seen plenty of great, blue and long tailed tits in the hedgerows flitting about! The blue tits seem particularly fond of the damsons left on the trees which must be well 'past their best' now! Could it be the damsons themselves or the insects that feed upon them that the BTs are interested in??
