Where have the blackbirds gone!!

  I had a male blackbird always in my garden in the breeding season, the poor thing looked like a battery hen, hardly any feathers, far worse than the picture Sparrow posted. I'm hoping when they do return he comes back in all his glory. i will know him as he comes on my windowsill for currants, and if there was none there he would stand looking at me. Haha

  I live close to a relatively large area of natural habitat (for an urban area) and I have been recording first song this year (usually always Blackbird).
  Not heard a peep since 20th July - though thought I heard something late today..

  The last I saw was a large puffed up female on my fence gasping during hot weather. She was having difficulty flying. I think she was a (late?) fledgling. I put more water out. Though I live next to a small reservoir with a stream anyway. That was about three or four weeks ago.
