Hi all
Came home from work last night at half 11, as I got out of the car I could hear a Robin singing its heart out. Thought to myself thats nice to hear but strange at this time of day, anyway, went to bed around 12:30 and I could still hear the singing.
What I wanted to know has anyone else heard or heard of this? There was a very bright moon last night, could this have anything to do with the Robin thinking the bright moon could well be the sun, or am I just being daft!! lol
Thanks in advance.
Several people have mentioned night singers, Andrew, usually in places with street lights. I remember hearing night singing deep in the country where there were no street lights, my mother said they were dunnocks and that they often sang at night - I'm not sure how true that is but someone on this site will know, between 'em they know everything birdy that you can imagine and some stuff you can't.
I think many of our garden birds will sing through the night usually around or on street lights,Robins seem to be the biggest culprits. It is often said that many of reported so called "Nightingales" are actually Robins putting a claim on their territory in the middle of the night

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
You're certainly not the only one, Andrew!
I've gone to bed at 2 in the morning before and heard all manner of bird song through my bathroom window!! I live in a small village which isn't lit up like a city centre and they were still at it! Very strange to hear in the middle of the night!
My name is VeggieBirdLover and I am a bird feeding addict :D
It’s 3:07 as I type and a robin is singing its heart out. I could hear it over the TV and wondered if it was the sound track or was it getting light already. Turning off the TV I could still hear it. There are street lights. It’s so loud. I’m used to the owls but I’ve never heard this chap before.
