We have a garden of about an acre with plenty of trees, shrubs, flower beds and lawns but we haven’t had any birds in it for several weeks. We live in a small town but always had an excellent selection of birds - the usual ones such as blackbirds robins sparrows jackdaws chaffinches, pigeons . Have they just reduced, is there any disease going around? Can you suggest why?

I think, in general, it's been a quiet Winter. Lack of all species of thrushes compared to prev years for example. If you literally have no resident birds though, sounds more of a local issue. Problem with a neighbour?New cat to the immediate area? As you probably know, there is disease out there, incl avian flu. Could be a factor but hard to imagine 100% extermination across all expected species.
Maybe a sparrowhawk most birds move on when pests like that show up.
....bit like a forum.
Except all the birds that visit our garden maybe they still seem to turn up despite a Sparrowhawk or two passing through now and again.
Ditto here. Almost as if facts are being made up by the pigeon keeper.
WOW another great come back
