Hi Guys
I am interested in what people think about sparrowhawks i for one think there are far to many of them. I know people were i live wont put out food in the garden anymore as the hawks are killing a lot of the birds and if your a pigeon keep then you will have even bigger problems. i did read a while back that sparrowhawks are having a big effect on small British garden birds. Do you guys think there needs to be something done to cut back on sparrowhawks ?
Of course there aren't - do you really think that any raptor could expand without a suitable food supply? Have you been reading stuff from the dodgy Songbird Survival people?
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I personally would like to see lots more sprawks to control the feral pigeon population. I bet if you asked 100 or 1000 general folk if they have ever seen a sparrowhawk the majority would answer no as they are never really around long enough to be seen unless they have actually caught a meal which is not that often. All just my own personal opinion though ;-)
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
Is this a wind up, Kevin "Pigeon"? Ha ha ha!
I'm a wanderer.
Why the hate for feral pigeon ? were i live we have a lot of feral cats should we also control them ?
Why would it be a wind up. there killing off far to many birds and sooner or later people will be wondering were all the garden birds went
Please dont hate on the Songbird Survival people
To be kind, they are deluded. As are you.
I bet cats (feral or not) kill more birds than birds than sparrowhawks, personally I would ban all pet cats outdoors and make them house cats. Cats only catch for fun at least sprawks catch for survival but that's another debate. So if we put the same question to our 100 or 1000 general folk about pigeons..."have you ever seen a pigeon", I bet their response wouldn't just be a yes or no answer!!..way too many, even the ones that go astray (like racing pigeons) are rarely reclaimed if found and reported. Only once have I ever seen two sparrowhawks within close proximity . I wish I could say the same for pigeons.
you need to stop with the hate Claire your starting to get out of control
I really think people should show pigeons more respect
