We have Blue Tits nesting in the roof of our house, they are using an old hole which a previous owner drilled for a radio antenna cable. We don't mind them, but would prefer if they nested in the nest boxes we have put in the garden.
I'm aware it's an offence to disturb nesting birds etc. Is there a time when it would be ok to block the hole up please?
Hi Roy, the birds will not be nesting at the moment, it is too early but the will be using the site to roost in, out of the horrid weather, now that they know it is there, the may be sussing it for breeding. IMO I would say that as they are not starting to nest (as you correctly say it is an offence to touch a nest from when the first piece of material is taken) you could block the hole up, but wait for others to give their opinion
