Hi looking for advice
we managed to save 1 out of two baby pigeon in our garden from our dogs
We fed it initially first few days then mom returned so we have just been keeping it safe in the day (away from the dogs) and putting it in a rabbit hutch for safety at night for about 3-4 weeks now
The trouble is it’s now wandering around the garden and it’s getting really hard to keep safe . It can’t fly and only appears to flap one wing the other remains still so I’m thinking it must have been damaged in the initial attack
I’ve ordered some chicken wire to try and keep it contained from wandering but open at the top so mom can still come. What should I do now?
I'm not really knowledgeable enough to answer, but my guess, it is possible one wing is damaged. However, the pigeon is trying to do naturally what it would normally do, exercise its wings and when the time is right, start early flying attempts which would hopefully lead to a successful maiden flight.
Hopefully someone will be able to give a more informative response.
