Evening,
just wondering what I might have nesting in my eaves?
every evening for the last 3 weeks we’ve heard a flapping / scratching noise around 10 at night until early morning around 5am it’s not a constant noise but it does wake you up every now & then.
Be grateful on any understanding of what this is?
Thanks Jonathan

UK Starlings are largely resident as far as I know. However, their numbers are bolstered in winter by inward migration from the colder parts of Europe.
I would have thought that House Sparrows are also potential suspects for roosting in the eaves of your house if they can get in.
I'm no expert and happy to be corrected, but 10pm (22:00hrs) seems late in the day for roosting unless there's light in the loft. Sunset is around 18:00hrs (6pm) depending where you are in the UK.
I'd be tempted to suggest scratching noise and possible rodent(s)
Sunrise/sunset times here are currently
Sunrise 07:36hrs
Sunset 18:03hrs
