How do we know when it's safe to remove a jackdaws nest from a chimney?

We have a jackdaws' nest in a chimney which is used as a flue from a gas fire. It was noticed around April 20th and the gas fire has been cut off and the house cannot be re-let without the necessary safety certificate. The jackdaws are still around, but we don't know what they are doing, neither can we tell which are adults or which are maturing young. Is there any way to tell whether the nest is still in use? Is it likely that the birds are still tending or feeding young after three months?
