thanks, but the last thing I want to do is shove a flash in the poor things face whilst its trying to get some kip!!!! besides the glass is frosted. Nice to know that the "thing" I'v seen swooping around after the chaffinches etc in the nearby tree is a kestrel.
hi marie4jo welcomb to forum
very unusual for a kestrel to roost out in open, how many nights
has it been there, is the window near a passage way, so sheltered, keep us informed
how it goes on. best regards mac
Young Kestrels will roost openly for their first year, although they usually pick a place out of any wind...Assuming they survive this cold we are having, they will learn to seek more cover as time goes on
Hi marie4jo
Welcome to the community from me. :-)
You are very lucky indeed to have a kestrel roosting on your bathroom windowsill.
He or she obviously thinks that it is a sheltered enough place to roost, so hopefully he will survive the cold. I wonder if he might be attracted to feed on a piece of cooked chicken carcass? It might be worth a try.
Best wishes Chris

Hi there,
I would also think that it being closer to your house will give the Kestral some extra warmth from this bitterly cold weather.
Bet you are getting some really excellent close up views
Thanks

I have been thinking about your kestrel this morning. Any news ?
hi marie4jo, any sign of the kestrel, try looking under the window sill
to see if it brought a pellet up, keep us informed. best regards mac
Hi there
kestrel stayed on sill til about 10.30 then flew away. I think it got fed up with the bathroom light going on and off!!!!! I knew there was a kestrel in the area because I'v seen it after the finches in the neighbours tree. Wish the bathroom window glass was clear I've never seen a wild kestrel that close!!
No pellet or anything. Just a kestrel sat on our window sill!!! stayed til about 10.30 the just flew off. Hope it comes back at some point then I can sit worrying about it again!! Thanx for your help
