I've recently started feeding birds in my back yard. I've noticed though that I only seem to be getting pigeons in the ground feeder and I don't want that. I've tried hiding the ground feeder but no difference. I don't want to attract pigeons, any idea what I can do to keep them out?
You need an adjustable ground feeding sanctuary.
THIS will keep the pigeons out and allow birds smaller than a blackbird to feed (mesh can be adjusted to allow Blackbirds to feed if you so wish). I had to keep mine to smallest mesh size otherwise I got grey squirrels squeezing through ! The ground guardians are a bit expensive but saves you in the long run on bird food. I used to drape a thick heavy duty butyl pond liner (cut to size) over the pitched roof part so it kept seed dry during wet weather.
