As you may be aware, the Badger Trust recently lost its appeal against the judgment given by Lord Justice Ouseley in July in respect of the Judicial Review made against the Government’s decision to hold a pilot trial of the free-shooting of badgers in parts of Somerset and Gloucestershire. This is clearly not the outcome they were hoping for. If, like me you feel passionate about this and would like to add your voice to the petition to get this cull stopped, then please click on the link below:http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/38257

Update: "Claims by Prime Minister David Cameron and newly appointed Environment Secretary Owen Paterson that the planned slaughter of badgers will lead to a healthier species, are absurd, says the Badger Trust and should be withdrawn and binned."

MrsT although I The badger trust or no one else explains how farmers can do more and the simple fact is this release is really just putting a bad slant on it and just putting there one sided view.
The simple fact is NO farmer can move cattle to another farm without the cattle being tested in the previous 60 days which means more or less that it cannot be spread from farm to farm and of course any responsible farmer would do all that they could to stop BTB getting on his farm as the compensation nowhere near covers his losses.
Really unfortunate that the badger trust or anyone else point out how farmers are spreading the disease which the trust and others insinuate.
When they explain that part I will then listen but so far no one can explain in detail,just wild accusations.
Hi Sooty, I wouldn't say they were 'wild accusations', the Badger Trust quoted their source in the article, it's linked here again if you care to read it, it's an interesting document if a little lengthy! One extract that seems pertinent to your comment is quoted below for interest;
"12. Our results indicate that while badgers contribute significantly to the disease in cattle, cattle-to-cattle transmission is also very important in high incidence areas and is the main cause of disease spread to new areas. The key aspects of reducing cattle-to-cattle transmission are improved surveillance through more reliable, and possibly more frequent, testing and control measures limiting spread through the movement of cattle between herds. This is consistent with data from cattle pathogenesis and field studies. Our modeling work indicates that implementation of cattle control measures outlined in this report are, in the absence of badger culling, likely to reverse the increasing trend in cattle disease incidence that has been a feature in GB for decades. It is also possible that more effective cattle controls will lead to a decline of the disease in badgers, although the timescale for this is likely to be slow."

Ian exactly,no one seems able to explain how if every animal(rules and law)is tested before moving BTB can be spread from farm to farm as the the EU and all badger people insinuate.If everyone seems to know the answer to this why does no one tell farmers.
Also the people who tell us badgers are innocent of spreading BTB need to explain to herd owners who have never moved any cattle onto their farm,being completely self contained and then get BTB in their herd how that happened.
I understand if it is correct that until relatively recently there were no badgers in Scotland and no BTB either,then as soon as badgers got into Scotland cattle started getting BTB.
Sheer coincidence I bet.
Doubt more frequent testing of cattle is needed as if any reactors are ever found then tests every 3 months until clear.
