As you may be aware, the Badger Trust recently lost its appeal against the judgment given by Lord Justice Ouseley in July in respect of the Judicial Review made against the Government’s decision to hold a pilot trial of the free-shooting of badgers in parts of Somerset and Gloucestershire. This is clearly not the outcome they were hoping for. If, like me you feel passionate about this and would like to add your voice to the petition to get this cull stopped, then please click on the link below:http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/38257

Well at least this farmer is correct in some of what he says.
First though he should say he is extremely lucky to be on a farm just like we were with clean badgers and that is the sole reason him and us had no trouble from BTB,he is lucky that BTB has not got to that area in epidemic proportions yet but it is spreading all the time. For instance in the 80s I understand it was more or less only in Devon and Cornwall in very localised areas and look how it has spread since.
It is nonsense about intensive dairy farms getting it because they are intensive,we were intensive like lots of others and never had any trouble, the area he farms in does not len itself to intensive dairy farming so doubt he knows much about that he is just guessing. The areas that lend themselves to intensive dairy farms also unfortunately have high densities of badgers.
Iagree with him that it is highly unlikely this cull will work as the only way I think a cull would work is to have boundaries such as rivers as boundaries and cull in between those boundaries which I think is unacceptable to almost everyone.
Lets face it it is not that brave or clever to do as he has and got some advertising for his cottages out of it.
Much more difficult for someone with BTB problems to come out and say things like that.
Understand each farm affected by BTB costs farm on average £10,000
The petition seems to be slowing: 144,071
Is this a glitch and is there more to come.

I care about the beautiful cattle being slaughtered as much as the badgers.

An optimist sees the beauty of the complete rose.A pessimist sees only the thorn .
Seems to me not very good publicity for badger groups when someone like Gloucester Wildlife Trust take a bigger initiative than badger groups and the petition by seriously asking the Government to vaccinate badgers and cattle as I understand it.They have sent a serious letter to Government saying that there is a vaccine ready for licence and not as farmers are told 5 to 10 years away.At last some group making serious noises about alternative, what a pity the petition did not make more about the alternative, even more would have been absolutely certain to sign.Really well done Gloucester Wildlife Trust.
The Government can certainly afford to put serious money to vaccinate and clear this disease up in the next decade as badgers rarely live more than 5 years so the experts say and so surely possible in 2 generations to clear it from the country and if we carry on as it is at the moment think it quite likely the disease will cost the Government (tax payers) £250 million in the next 10 years.

Petition now at 149,320 - people are still coming forward to join in.
What is really strange is where is everyone coming out of the woodwork and how the Badger Trust must wish all these signatures meant everyone would pay into the Badger Trust as their income £120,000
In contrast RSPB income £122,000,000
In some ways Brock is desperate for funds.
