Woodcocks in London.

Hello, last year while walking to work in London near St. Paul's Cathedral I walked through St. Alban's Court and saw a woodcock not looking too well, then last week I walked through the same place and saw a dead woodcock. I understand that a woodcock is a wader but these were not too near any water. It seems strange for there to be two in fairly central London, not a million miles from the Thames and the Barbican lake but not right next door either. Are woodcocks at risk in general? I'd never seen one before last year. Is there likely to be a group that needs help or is it just a sad coincidence? Anything we can do? Thanks Ian.
