Brighton peregrines 2022

Despite the cameras taking a beating, impending building works and all manner of problems last year, the falcons atop Sussex Heights on Brighton seafront have three chicks this year from a clutch of four. They're about a week old, I think, at the time of writing. Thought I'd share this cute screenshot anyway.

I haven't worked out whether this is the 'regular' female (who flew into a building last year and needed time out to recover with the help of local experts) or a new bird. There used to be a Facebook feed dedicated to them but I cannot find it just now.

Anyway, the cameras aren't as high-res as Chichester's -- and one of them is dangling upside down and pointing at the traffic after last winter's storms -- but they do provide a very intimate view of happenings as they happen: https://sussexheights.co.uk/sussex-heights-brighton-peregrine-falcons-nestbox-camera

  • I used to watch & post vids quite regularly up to end of last season but, like you, cannot find "chat" this year! So no more info for this site!

  • Hello Everyone in this chat. I am looking for some help please to make contact with the person/people who would hold the keys to the padlocks on the doors on each side of the Peregrine nesting area on the top of Sussex Heights. We have just started the facade refurbishment on the whole building and we need to get into the nesting area so that we can clean the wall above it. Any help will be very much appreciated. My contact info if anyone can help is calum@mps-contracts.co.uk. Many thanks - Calum Phillips

  • Hi Wendy, thanks very much for your quick reply! I have spoken to the caretaker at the property and they advised me that it was someone from RSPB who held the keys and who carry out regular cleaning of the nest site. If anyone from RSPB on this chat could help to confirm if this is the case or not i would be very grateful.

  • In reply to Calum Phillips:

    Hi Calum

IIRC it was Graham Roberts (a member of Sussex Ornithological Society) who originally set up the nestbox. Probably worth contacting them via https://www.sos.org.uk/ or Twitter twitter.com/sussexornitholo .
  • That is news to me Calum, would be very surprised if that were the case, have wztched the clean-up live on cameras but never seen anything reported by RSPB ... have you tried anyone else on the list?
