Titchwell & N Norfolk Part 1

Back in Oct we decided to stay a few days on the north Norfolk coast and celebrate my wife's birthday as an excuse to visit Titchewll, Holkham and Cley Marshes.

The two hotels and food were great and we had lots of sightings along the coast.

Titchwell       Great White Egret frighting the geese.

Golden Plovers by the thousands, too many to get in one shot.

There were 6 Spoonbills about but never spooning together.

A number of Curlew on the various scrapes.

And Egrets of various sizes.

Dunlin

Such a beautiful coast line & landscape with so many places to see birds and willdlife. Part 2 to follow and hope you enjoy our travels.

  • Nice to see the spoonbills Tony. We also had a trip here in October, they just had 2 and they were a long way away. Nice selection of photo's.

  • Lovely start Tony, looking forward to part 2 already. My abiding memory of the north Norfolk coast is getting cut off by the tide at North Hunstanton, and having to wade through thigh deep sea holding my camera gear above my head. Unfortunately my car keys (electronic fob) were in my trouser pocket, and cost a fortune to get repaired so we could drive anywhere! Ohh... and Mrs PB putting the wrong info in a King Lyn car park machine and us getting a parking ticket!!

  • Great to see photos from Titchwell and reminds me of our trip there at the end of September/October.   Think you may have a Brent ) also referred to as Brant) goose in that first photo;  they were often down on the coastline when we were there.    I recognise that confiding Curlew as you venture down towards the beach passing the pools on the right and the muddy ditches !  Lovely set including the spoonbills,  thanks Tony.     How do spoonbills preen effectively with that spatula bill ?  LOL !!!

  • Thanks Snappy, the Spoonbills were reasonably close to the Parminder hide. There were a good variety of birds about including the thousands of Golden Plover and hundreds of various geese.

  • Cheers PB, I've sorted part 2, just need the time to load. I know about Hunstanton Beach and sorry to hear you had such traumas & expense. We've been caught out on Blakney beach by walking too far to find the seals and having to walk back 3 miles on shingle, nightmare.

  • We always love visiting Titchwell and the whole coast line, so many great places to to see birds and wildlife. Your right about the Brant, there were a good few hundred about the reserve and many. more at Wells & Holkam. Also thousands of Pinkfooted along with the usual Greylags & Canada's. That Curlew stood there for at least 30 mins just watching the people walk to the beach. We were lucky at Cley were we were shown a Longbilled Dowitcher through someones scope at the visitor centre, a first for us. Interesting question about preening Spoonbills, think they ask another to do their face maybe !!
