One of the best things about September is the flood of passage migrants coming through this beautiful part of the world. Happily, this particular bird is likely to stay in the area for the winter - that's fine by me:
I've always had a soft spot for curlews, ever since seeing pictures of them in books when I was very young. I still find those beaks amazing!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
