I always use to think that you just don't see a good black and white flower, butterfly or wild bird photographs. They were just three subjects that look so much better in colour.
I then overcome the flower one with shots like this below: -
Please click on images.
But that is just one of the three.
What I would like you see if any of you can find a black and white picture of a bird that really works.
Look forard to see you posts.
Monochrome, or black and white photography, as it is more commonly known, is a very underestimated form of photography.
It can be brilliant for enhancing cloud and sky photos, especially if you have a DSLR or bridge camera that will allow you to affix filters, especially when using a circular polarising filter.
This theme is certainly from the dim and distant past,I think one reason we all took black and white way back when was because it could be developed at home with simple equipment and colour film was both expensive so buy and get developed.
Even my first "proper" i.d. guide by Peterson,Mountfort and Hollom 1954 edition £1-5 shillings in old money had a lot of b & w pictures in and very subdued colour in the others. Modern stuff is some much nicer to use. We 'ad it tuff in them days lol
Black and white photographs are really elegant and beautiful. I like to shoot in black and white because it lends a certain timeless quality to the images.
I sometime use this Photoshop action to create the black and white effect

Here are some examples of black and white bird photographs that I like. noticed that ravens, swans and owls look great in black and white.

The selective color effect looks also great on this type of photography. Especially for colorful birds like parrots.

I like the photo on the lower left.
I used to have a compact where you could select the colour to emphasise, and the remainder of the photo stayed in greyscale
