ILR Out and about 14th February 2025

I was hoping to see a kestrel today to have another chance of photographing one Hovering while hunting for food and luck was with me today.

A yellow Hammer photo taken from the garden

As I was walking down the field I saw these Linnets in this tree, I always tend to see them in a large flock

Something disturbed these pigeons maybe a bird of pray

A few fieldfare on my way back home

A Pied wagtail and I also saw a grey wagtail but it flew off before I could take a photo

A lovely Blackbird in the garden

The same pied wagtail looking for a worm probably. It had been a really nice afternoon although very cold, blue sky eventually showed itself towards the end of the day.

  • Nice set ILR... Yellowhammer from the back garden.... soooo jealous!!! I think that's more Fieldfare in the one tree than I've seen all winter! And not forgetting fab waggie Smiley Thanks for sharing!

  • Lovely variety ILR...that is a lot of pigeons nice to see  the Kestrel showed up for you

    (Pardon the Scottish Accent)

  • Thanks very much PB, It was late afternoon when I went for a walk hoping to see a hare or a deer but no joy there, but I also wanted to see a kestrel hovering to try out the faster shutter speed, and what turned up as if by magic yes a kestrel hovering. As you can see the higher shutter speed made a big difference to the last time I posted. The yellow hammer was also a bonus I see them a lot usually around 20 or so but never as close as yesterday, The light was fading by the time I reached the fieldfare and after a few adjustments to my settings I managed to get a photo or two. It was nice to see the Linnets again in large numbers, so for the time I was out you could say it was quite a good couple of hours.

  • Thank you Linda, yes I was lucky with the Kestrel and managed to get a better photo of it hovering, with regards the pigeons I wouldn't want to have to count them but was glad to get a photo regardless.

  • Thank you Hazel we are so lucky to see such a large variety of wildlife and on our doorstep. So pleased you liked them.

  • Hi Snappy it was probably around 40m away. I first saw it land in a tree and took a number of photos of it in the tree but not one of the photo's were any good as there were branches in the way, but I was lucky when it left the tree and started hunting, I so wanted to get another photo of it hovering and trying out my new shutterspeed and as you can see from the last post the photo was much better. With regards the yellow hammer we are very lucky to see them most days but not nessesary to photograph them as they usually are flying from one hedgerow to another.
