Bempton Cliffs is a great place to visit, I have been five times so far this year with the highlight for me the short eared owls flying around the site in daylight in the months of February and March. Your photos represent some of the typical birds that can be seen at various times of year. Thank you for sharing your lovely photos.

Thanks ILR. I wish I live nearer to go more often, but I have booked another week at Whitby for next year, so hopefully will go again. I did hear someone talking about the short eared owls that they had seen earlier in the year ...

I can understand why you are staying at Whitby it’s a great place to visit and about three quarters of an hour to Bempton. A bit closer to Whitby is Russop on the banks of the river esk well worth a visit take a look on both sides of the river you may see a barn Owl I did and a barnacle goose and a local heron and the usual ducks, if you do go there it’s near Russup railway station

and best time to go is half hour before dusk

Whitby, the home of Dracula, is a fabulous place to visit, particularly if you go toward the end of October, when it's Goth Week.

A word of caution, the cobbled street alongside the 199 Steps up to St Mary's Church and Whitby Abbey, is hard going, so use the 199 steps, plus the view across the harbour, sea and cliffs is fantastic.

Hi Mike yes I have been up those steps to the top many times we spent some time there earlier in the year and took a few photos of the steam punk weekend which was good fun
