They quite often have a favourite perch so will fly off and return. So basically try and prefocus on their spot or just before it and then fire away as they come back and you have sharp flight shots (sometimes). It helps if you can position yourself so that they fly in on the same focal plane as the perch.
Managed to get a photo of this wee Damselfly today (10-06-2023). First one of a green colour to visit. Did not get a clear shot of it as a well out of focus blade of pond grass got in the way.
Still happy with it.
