  • What a stupendous selection ILR, and well caught too.

Striking birds the grebe's...I've never seen one in breeding plumage, a proper treat :o)

I'm not sure about your "different" Kestrel, but it does appear to have longer "fingers", and a lighter band across the chest similar to a buzzard.... you're right about the chicks though....they're DEINITELY chicks

Thanks for sharing your fb day out!

Thank you PB, yes it was a good day, the little Owl was a real bonus for me as the only other photo I had of it was when it was in the railway sleepers, It was good to get a proper view of it. And yes they were definitely chicks, Lol. It’s also great to see the deer now on a more regular basis and I tend to see a kestrel nearly every time I go there. Thanks for your reply PB and viewing.
  • Great selection of photo's.

I like the little owl and Black necked Grebes. Not heard of the Black necked Grebe, impressive summer plumage.

  • In reply to SnappyMac:

Thank you SM it’s a shame they were so far away, It would have been nice to get a little closer but maybe next time. Glad you liked the little Owl he is normally hiding in the railway sleepers, it was nice to get a better photo.
  • St Aidans sure is a wee goldmine..no wonder you keep returning ILR!

As PB says them Grebes are really striking!
I would a,so say your different kestrel is a buzzard
And just aww to the little owl sitting there waiting for you lol

Thanks Linda St Aidans truly is a wonderful place and provides lots of surprises when you visit especially at this time of year, I was hoping to see the black neck grebes and although they were at a distance It was still great to see them. There were lots to see and the little owl was a treat and the deer were the closest I had ever seen them. Thanks for viewing Linda..

  • In reply to Linda257:

I must admit Linda I have only ever seen them at St Aidans and nowhere else. It’s surprising they haven’t found your garden yet. Lol
