Blacktoft Sands and St Aidans RSPB Nature Reserves see what I saw

I decided that I would visit  RSPB Blacktoft Sands 27th March 2023. On arrival I was told that only one hide was available due to the paths leading to the other hides were flooded. So I walked to the hide that was available only to find as expected it was quite busy, but i managed to get a seat and I was so glad I did. I had only ever seen Avocets before from photos and there in front of me was an Avocet, I was so pleased to see one and it didn't end there as you will see from the photos below.

With the only one hide available I decided that I would head back to RSPB St Aidans with a few more hours available, why not. The first look in the binoculars to the left hand field I saw a small bird heading my way and it landed within 20m of me see photo.

A meadow Pipit

A reed bunting wanted to see what was going on

This one was nosey too

On the lake a Great crested grebe

Pochard with a pearl necklace.

Black headed Gull

Maggie getting a good view over the reserve

Blue Tit

Two more black head Gulls Talking Football

Grey heron not being sociable

On the way back to the car a Buzzard

And then I spotted deer on the hill

That's them all for today thanks for viewing

Thanks Linda, Fortunately the RSPB guys kept the one hide open otherwise I would have missed everything, all the paths were flooded apart from the route to the far hide. And with only one hide open I had plenty of time to visit St Aidans, another bonus. The highlight of the day was definitely seeing the Avocet, I had been hoping to see one of these for ages. My next hope for is the dipper ? One day, hopefully.

Thank you PB yes it was a good day although at first I thought it was going to be a disaster as all the paths were flooded and only access to one of the hides. When I got inside the hide there was one seat available thankfully and the first bird I saw was a Avocet I soon changed my mind about the day being a disaster. And there wasn’t just one either there was a few of them and the shelducks were close enough to get a good photo too. And quite a few waders. Having spent around an hour there I was off to St Aidans that usually always provides the goods. So all in all a very good day. Thanks again for viewing PB
  • Looks like you had a great day out, very productive for the photo's  Nice to have seen the Avocets.

I did SM, the avocets were a first for me and the shelducks I had only got photos of them in the distance before so it was nice to get a close up of them and to get three together I was well pleased. Everything else was a bonus. Thanks for viewing SM and your reply it’s always nice to get feedback.
