Barn At Frocester Hill today

The Barn Swallows went here today but I saw a Magpie on a haystack

Then  I saw a cage. The Magpie had a bowl of water in there with him or her. But it’s not good to keep Wild  birds as pets Without a licence and it was very strange.  And no one was around.  then the person I’m with came and called me I said I’m here and asked why there is a Magpie in a cage.

She wasn’t very helpful but another lady came past so I asked and she said they only do it if a bird causes trouble and  its cause it was causeing trouble and that they will let it out eventually. I told The person that took me that it’s strange cause I havnt seen it here before and she said it doesn’t happen often but usually release them after a week at the latest.

I went to the barn to see if I could see any Barn Swallows in there after but it was empty But I saw  there nests

Then later I saw an Invertrebete which is  possibly a type of wasp

After that I left.

  • Very odd re caged magpie. Suspicious.

When I told her it was strange and after she said it doesn’t happen often The person I was with said she wondered why she saw birds in cages in random places in the countryside until she saw one at this barn that she visits often to get her horse. When she saw it there aswell she asked why there in cages and she’s said the person said it’s something they do on farms. the person I was with told me more details from what the lady said that  I asked earlyer. She said Someone comes and Puts birds that are causeing trouble for them in cages for a certain period of time then comes back and releases it. A week at the latest. It’s not the first time they have done it cause she has seen it before but This is the very first time Iv seen it. But that might just be cause it doesn’t happen often like she said. However one of the things that  made me suspicious when I saw it wasn’t only cause I havnt seen it before but cause when I spotted it the Magpie was very wrestless constantly jumping and walking back and forth without stoping so it seemed stressed being in the cage. I asked her about the bowl of water they put a bowl of water and food in there cause they need to drink or it will die of thirst or hunger. I Still think the cage thing is quiet suspicious though.

Sounds more like someone is trying to lure wild birds in to be 'culled'.
