Thanks Germain, I have sorted that batch of whites out now...
Could I check these 3 from earlier posts look like Large Whites:
My total is currently18 types, if these are correct...
Can I have a guess for fun before the experts arrive, please?
I would go for Numbers 1 & 2 Small Whites and Number 3 Green Veined White ...
I was thinking 1 & 3 Green Veined and 2 a Small White
I tried using the guide on this site: butterfly-conservation.org/.../the-race-is-on-for-uks-newest-butterfly
1 & 2 are Small Whites - 3 is Green-V
I'm taking the liberty of adding a photo of mine of a male Large White. the black wing tips are the main indicator
LW - Bold (strong) black that extends down the margins - Spots large round
SW - Paler black so looks faded that does not extend - Spots small round
GV - Think Grey Triangles - Spots small round and the veining appears more obvious
Size doesn't always help either as you can get small Large and large Small - they don't like to make it easy and when you have 30 or so of the beggars all bombing about you sometimes have to guess and go with gut as there can be subtle flight difference
