Coot feeding young at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Gloucestershire

It is. I watched them for some time cause it was very entertaining and enjoyable watching them and I havnt seen coots feed there young before. Iv seen other birds feeding there young before though like Moorhens for example, not to say there isn’t othet birds where both parents feed there young but I it’s interesting that both of the parents look for food and feed there young rather than one parent.

The parents take a lot of care and time to feed and rear their young, even though sometimes, they can seemingly be harsh, and I have just the once, seen a coot eat a youngster. Why, I can only presume, it was weak, or possibly ventured to the wrong nest, because there seemed to be a plentiful supply of food, because the rest were carefully tended to as you'd expect.
