Pied Wagtail in Hampshire 06/01/10

Hi - I joined today because I would like to share my pictures of a lovely pied wagtail...very friendly and posed for some time outside my window.

I do hope that I have got the right breed, but cannot link it to any other.  I havent seen him/her for two days now....he is a loner and I had read that they gather in large groups?

I also saw a song thrush yesterday but did not get a photo.

I would be pleased to have anyone's comments?

Ta....Jeannie

  • Hi Jenny

Nice to hear from a Hampshire fellow, altho you live in much more countryfied area than I in Farnborough.  You in the south and me in the northeast.  However, I have a decent sized garden....which a number of birds and squirrels inhabit.  I have only lived here a few months and taken a real interest in birds since!  Have binoculars nearby, both ends of the house, just in case -  and reach more often for the camera too!  Saying that, I am not  a great photographer by any means, but do enjoy when I capture a good'un.

Your wagtail back then sounded a right character!  Cant wait so see mine again...I hope he comes back for more photo shoots!  He just seemed to love all the attention and the flash didn't bother him at all.

Take care for now and hope to share more news soon!

    Regards  Jeannie

  • Hi Jeannie and welcome to the forum. It is true that I have a pied and a grey wagtail, both or which are now not only regular visitors but they are around nearly all day. They sit on the trellis and supervise the starlings on the feeder table, making sure they don't eat too much!  I actually managed to get a few photos of the two of them together today - something I rather hoped I would do but didn't really ever expect to happen.

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

     Hi Squirrel,

Are you going to upload them to your gallery? Just had a look but not there yet!!![

    Cheers, Linda.

  • Hi Sparrow, I will do tomorrow morning. This site is running really slowly tonight and it is driving me up the wall - that and someone who has dredged up a four month old post to, it seems to me, simply have a pop at Birds of Prey!

  • Morning Sparrow, I have posted three in but they aren't that good as the snow kept getting in the way!

  • Hi Squirrel

Just had a look at your gallery photos of the P& G Wags. Really nice to get them together like that. The close-up shots of the pieds are lovely too.

I wonder if these birds will stay loyal to you when the thaw comes. Probably not.
