Has anyone seen any yet? I often see flocks of them flying over our rural office in the autumn / winter but not spotted any yet!
Can't wait for them to arrive in Shropshire! Determined to get decents pics of them this year!!

Snap I have my eye on the sky! None yet..... camera is ready, hope I don't miss.
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Is it that time of year again already!? they main arrivals are during late September and October so we can all expect to see both species soon for sure. Redwing migration starts a couple of weeks before the fieldfares
Latest Redwing sightings
Latest Fieldfare sightings
Both species are widespread and common during the winter their combined numbers in the UK can be as high as 1.5 million birds!

Wow! Thanks for the info Lloyd! With that many birds I hope to have a better chance of getting a decent picture!! Good to know they are about already in places!
Hi Lloyd
Thank you for the information. Looking forward to seeing them this year.
Last time I saw a large flock of them was in a large field close to Thornhill (village) on the outskirts of Stirlingshire, Scotland
A while ago, There was a mixed flock of Redwings and Fieldfares close to our Farmhouse (close to where the Red Kites where mentioned on another thread here). I was amazed on how many there where, and they are very gregarious birds as groups go. They depend on each other a lot.
We had a farm track which was about a mile long with trees up one side and a hedge up the other side. When I walked up and down this same track I could see groups of Fieldfares in twos and threes. They made the most rustic calls you have ever heard. It was more like an alarm call to tell each other that I was walking under the trees and I was too close for company. They do not miss a thing and are very skittish birds.
This happened every year, until we left the house, and sadly moved away. The FieldFares, and Redwings where very dependable at the at time from the moment they arrived at the end of the year - to the moment they left the following year.
There was also a small flock around Grafham area (close to where I stay), and Fieldfares where clear to see (but not Redwings) this time. I wish I had my camera this time around but not to be.
Looking forward to their arrival now. {thumbs up}
Regards
Kathy and Dave

Not reached us in Ayrshire or D&G yet that I am aware of, I remember last season there seemed to be loads of Redwings they seemed to be everywhere. Maybe at the weekend with no other commitment but birding we might be lucky.. mibby a bit early for us just yet though

just been informed they been seen in Ayr so hopefully we'll get some sighting this weekend.
Hello Marjus - I am in Shropshire as well and have been scanning the skies each day for Redwings and Fieldsfares but nothing so far. I walk the dog each morning and am waiting anxiously for their return to our local patch.
They haven't reached me in Norfolk yet, I have been looking out for them because they usually arrive after mid September.
May be delayed due to weather, have just spent a few days in Scotland and there are some fairly strong westerly winds about (would explain the american birds turning up at present) so they could be sitting tight at present waiting for more favourable conditions for migration, this may mean quite an influx if they all pile over at the same time.
In the meantime I will keep scanning the skies and checking out their favourite spots on the local patch.

Still no sign, was at Strumpshaw yesterday and checked out a spot on my local patch this morning where they often feed, maybe the strong westerly winds are continuing to keep them away.
Hi there
No sign here at the moment. We have not been to any reserves over the past 3 months due to a broken leg. I am more able bodied now, so we must and will embark on a few walks at the weekends before the winter months are through.
Love to hear is any appear at The Lodge HQ's at all?
